Mental Health

Tele-therapy also referred to as e-therapy, telecounseling, and virtual or distance counseling is the process of providing real-time chat, voice or face-to-face video counseling services through the internet. Services are provided via a secure and encrypted HIPAA compliant platform using the latest in privacy technology. This allows you to meet with your practitioner via a private and secure internet server. SympLiving values your privacy, so we encourage you to have a distraction free environment when using this service.

Many factors contribute to mental health issues including biological factors, life experiences, and family history. People with mental health problems can get better and many recover completely. [1] SympLiving offers comprehensive individual, couples, and family therapies. We are the only platform of this type to offer real-time group therapy and live client/practitioner interactions for couples and families. SympLiving also offers corporate packages to businesses who want to offer mental health care benefits to their employees.

Preventative Care

Don’t feel you have a problem, but think talking to someone might be beneficial? Good for you! We welcome preventative care here at SympLiving. Prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders focuses on addressing known risk factors that can affect the chances of developing mental health problems, relationship issues or familial upset. Promoting social-emotional well-being leads to higher overall quality of life and sense of well being. Added personal and community benefits include increased lifespan, improved family life, heightened productivity, better educational outcomes, lower crime rates, lower healthcare costs, and stronger economies. Individual Therapy

You are not alone! Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition, while one in 25 live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression (in 2014). 1 in 5 Americans will be personally affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime and every American is affected or impacted through friends or family [2]. Suicide is now the 10th leading cause of death in the United States accounting for more than 41,000 American lives lost each year [1].

Among those were 7,403 American Veterans (20 veterans every day) equating to 18 percent of all Americans lost to suicide each year. A staggering 65 percent of these veterans were 50 years or older which speaks to the fact that without the proper help, time does not heal all wounds. SympLiving practitioners specialize in many areas, including suicide prevention and military psychology, and we are here to help.[4]

2001–2014 Main Finding: On average, the number of civilians who died by suicide each day has increased each year since 2001.

Couples Therapy

SympLiving is unique in the way we provide couples therapy because we offer live real time sessions with your practitioner. This can be crucial in the therapeutic process. With SympLiving you can interact with your practitioner directly via face to face video, live chat and voice chat (phone call over internet).

Dr. William Doherty presents research which shows that 'growing apart' is the single biggest reason people give for divorce. Dr. Doherty is a professor of family social science at the University of Minnesota and a psychopractitioner who trains couples counselors for The Gottman Institute. Other issues which often apply pressure on a relationship are life changes or high levels of stress. [1]

Feelings of lost connection and conflict are generally couples’ main concerns when coming to therapy, but there are many additional reasons. Other common issues include finances, sex, division of labor, management of family and friends, parenting, infidelity, health, and substance use and addiction.

  • Build trust and improve communication with your partner.
  • Develop healthy ways to recognize and resolve conflicts.
  • Learn how to create a lasting and fulfilling sex life with your partner.
  • Identify unhealthy patterns in your relationship. This is paramount as 70% of relational problems are perpetual while only 30% are new.
  • Find ways to agree upon and work through issues with the support of your practitioner.
  • Repair, rebuild and/or renew your commitment to each other.
  • If need be, clarify reasons for separation or divorce and navigate the process together in a healthy way with your practitioner.

You can expect your SympLiving practitioner to interview both of you, usually together and sometimes separately, over the course of the first few sessions. You should then receive feedback from your practitioner which will include a treatment plan. You and your partner will share a practitioner and one client portal through which all messages will be sent and received.

Family Therapy

SympLiving offers tele-counseling services to families. This is important because families can experience great difficulties when even one member struggles. In fact, half of all mental health disorders show first signs before a person turns 14 years old, and three quarters of mental health disorders begin before age 24. In 2014 one in 10 young people experienced a period of major depression. Unfortunately, less than 20% of children and adolescents with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need adding preventable stress to the family unit.[1]

In today’s society, telecounseling is ideal for families; particularly those with teens and pre-teens. You and your family will share a practitioner and one client portal through which all messages will be sent and received. The Practitioner is responsible for determining the method in which the family will be seen, particularly during real-time services; individually, group involving some or all family members, or any appropriate combination thereof throughout the therapeutic process. SympLiving will require signed informed consent for families involving children in treatment.

Group Therapy

Interacting with a group of strangers might sound intimidating at first, but group therapy is known to provide benefits that individual therapy may not. In fact, psychologists state that group members are most often surprised by how rewarding the group experience can be.

Groups can be lead from a multitude of therapeutic approaches and can involve many platforms such as talk therapy, grief process, specialized training, support, skill building, and expressive (art, drama, music). We offer both open and closed groups. Open groups welcome new members at any time while closed groups generally require all members begin the group at the same time and are usually for a specified number of meetings. There are pros and cons with each type. You may experience an adjustment period while getting to know established open group members, but people come and go regularly so you will not be the newest member for long. Closed groups usually form close knit relationships, but you may have to wait for several months until one becomes available.

Schedule a live session with your practitioner while at home, from work during a break, at a time you plan to be at a quiet park, on a walk, or take advantage of a long commute and take your practitioner with you. Connect with one of SympLiving’s Counselors or Social Workers and take control of your mental health.
